The Gimp's interface is a bit different from other applications, but with a little practice it's easy to get used to.

After opening or creating a new image, right-click on the main window to display the menus -- then move the mouse over the submenus to open each one.

A nice feature are the tear-off menus -- just left-click on the dashed line to break-away a menu into its own window.
